Food & Beverage Solutions for Rexel Kellihers: Enhancing Staff Wellbeing & Sustainability

The Challenge

Rexel-owned Kellihers is a leading electrical wholesaler in Ireland with 24 stores and distribution centres. As part of their expansion, they opened a new logistics centre employing 50 staff. Recognising the importance of staff wellbeing, Kellihers sought to improve employee access to refreshments and hydration on-site.

With a location isolated from nearby shops, Kellihers needed an on-site solution that provided snacks, cold drinks, and healthy food. They wanted a sustainable approach that aligned with their commitment to staff wellbeing, while also reducing plastic bottle waste.

The Solution

Selecta installed a fully managed smart fridge offering a variety of snacks and fresh foods, including sandwiches, wraps, salads, and yoghurts sourced from Freshways. A combination vending machine further ensured a wide range of options for staff and visitors alike.

A high capacity and energy-efficient coffee machine ensured quality hot beverages were also available at any time.

To address hydration, Selecta also installed two Aquablu Refill+ functional water taps. These taps provide personalised, flavoured water that encourages increased consumption.

The Aquablu system also promotes sustainability by reducing single-use plastic bottles, as employees can refill their own bottles throughout the day. Aquablu further supports sustainability by delivering monthly impact reports, showing the amount of plastic saved.

 

When we opened our brand-new distribution centre in Baldonnell, we recognised the immediate need to have on site a suitable food and beverage solution without installing a full catering kitchen. With Selecta we have met the requirements of staff on site by providing snacks, cold and hot beverages along with fresh food options throughout the day. The Smart Fridge allows us to cater for all needs and helps with staff retention and avoids staff having to drive or cycle to the nearest store which is over 15 minutes away.

Since installing the Aquablu solutions on both floors we have noticed employee satisfaction has increased dramatically with the range of healthy flavours and the feel-good factor it brings when using the solution. Aquablu has helped us to drive our own sustainable initiative on site and to see that we have saved over 3,000+ plastic bottles from being used over the past 12 months along with an average of 150kg of Co2 every month is powerful – we would recommend the Aquablu solution for any workplace.

The Results

Kellihers' staff have embraced their new food and beverage options in the smart fridge, with fresh sandwiches and summer fruit granola being the most popular items.

The Aquablu taps have been particularly effective in promoting hydration and productivity, with pure chilled and lemon-flavoured water as the preferred choices.  And the number of plastic bottles saved is growing fast, as employees consistently refill their personal bottles throughout the day.
